Default trying to decide

I've been trying to do some research into which camaro or firebird i should buy for the criteria i'm looking for: having a v8 with a 6-speed and trying to stay with over 20mpg after some engine modifications for daily driving of ~50miles highway. I've been looking to lean further towards getting a z28 or a firebird with a v8 and building it up near to a trans am.

a well maintained good running 6sp lt1 or ls1 will get 25 to 28 mpg. i get 17 to 23 with mine, built to 400hp with auto and 370 gears.

i think i know i'm atleast looking for a 96-99 now, i'm not going to sink a few thousand into the car after i get it, most i'll probably do is exhaust, headers, possibly a chip, intake, and possibly different injectors. I doubt i'll be pushing much over, or if even 300

If you get an LS1 (98-02) you'll be over 300 to the wheels with very little amount of mods. LT1 (93-97) is a little harder, but still easily doable.
