Default Tire leak

I know this isn't a camaro specific question, but I thought I would get your opinions if you care to give them.

I had a screw in the tread of my new Hankook tire. None of the tire shops would patch it, as its too close to the edge (about 1" away). They say the patch won't hold. I put a plug in it but still have a slow leak. I do not want to buy a new tire. What about using slime inside the tire or do I need a new tire?

If anyone has any other suggestion let me know.
Thanks

Slime might seal it... but when you get new tires (eventually) the tire shop is going to HATE you. how big is this hole? And what size plug did you use?

Bias ply tube in a radial tire? Interesting.

Can't say I've ever heard of anybody do that before. How's it handle?

It was a small hole I sanded out a 1/8 "hole. I used a smaller heavy duty plug in the hole

Use the bigger plug and it might just seal completely. Going to be a pain in the ***** to get it in. Just ream it out well, make sure it's clean, then put the larger plug in. Should hold. Just keep in mind, they do last a long time, but eventually they will start to wear out and start to leak again.

Don't get caught up in "bias ply"

if your buddy at the garage has a tube kicking around that fits then shove it in. it will work.

We're talking about Hankook tires which are one of the cheapest out there. He'll be needing new tires in 7k-10k miles anyway.

Good point. No wonder the shops didn't want to fix 'em.
So, should they be categorized as the Yugo of tires?

They're OK if you are on a budget. When I needed 4 tires for my Z a local shop had a deal on qty 4 275 40 17 Hankooks. He ordered them for someone who never showed up. I got them mounted, balanced and new stems for $100 each. They were terrible in the rain, had little traction and i wore through them in 7k miles. The car now rolls on Toyo Proxes 4

But at $400 total cost to shoe the entire car I had to give them a try.
