stereo and security
Hey all, just got a car, that appears to have had a stock stereo stolen out of it...not sure why.
the dash isn't busted up, but there are just wires, so i'm not sure what was in there, but guessing it was stock.
anyways, the security light is on constant, cruise doesn't work (did have to change a 3rd brakelight bulb, didn't fix it, had similar issues with a grand am and led tails) and it has no stereo.
i read that the reset for security is done via the stereo, soooo is the fact that stereo is gone setting this light off? i have 3 different sets of keys to this thing, and they all do it. solid security light.
i dug around, and can't really find anything linking the two, i assume it's not the problem, but if anyone knows and can help, i'd really appreciate it
thanks!

The stock stereo has nothing to do with the security light.
If the security lamp is on and the engine starts, there could be a wiring problem between the VATS module and the security lamp, or the VATS module saw a failure between the lock cylinder and the module while the engine was running which caused the VATS to go into the "fault enable mode", meaning that the VATS is now disabled, and no longer protecting the car. This allowed the engine to keep running while the failure took place, and allows the engine to be started again in the future.
If you have LED lamps they may cause the ABS to fail unless enough load is added to the circuit to make up the current draw difference between the stock lamps and the LEDs.
