Default steering problems

yay once again i now have a problem i seem to have the worst luck with camaro's but i guess thats the price you pay for alost a 20 yr old car.

my issue is my steering when im going extremely slow like 5 and under i cant turn the wheel or it feels like i have no power steering at all but when im 10 MPH it turns just fine and its spraying fluid every where it happened to me a week ago at a walmart parking lot and didnt think nothing of it maybe it was low on fluid well it wasnt.

I then i thought maybe it was a hose i knocked loose earlier while taking the intake hose off ( stock 90 degree intake) is shot so i have to keep attaching it till my aluminum one from JEGS comes in.

but all my hoses are tight

any thoughts?

At slow speeds the power assist is working harder, harder work means higher pressure. You could have a leak that is only above a certain pressure. Have someone turn the wheels all the way to one side while you watch under the hood. Watch the hoses, both ends of the Rack, where the steering shaft connects to the rack and the pump itself. 20 year old hoses do not like to be messed with.

I have seen cars that did not seem to leak but when the hit the bump stop the hose turned into a fountain.

sounds like the relief valve in the pump is failing. i went through three new rebuilds before this one and its starting to act up. its been a while now though. wide front tires don't help.

well the front tires are 225/40/r17 so there smaller than the factory calls for. Can a coolant leak cause the stiffness? and if it doesn't, should I replace the pump if there are no leaks comming from the hoses?

i also changed the rear bump stops in the back could that effect it as well?

it could be slipping belt. is coolant on the belt, i would think it would make some noise though when slipping. failing relief valve does just what your saying. as long as its easy to turn it does not fail but once it has to work the fluid flows by the valve.

I got it it was a slipping belt what happened was the fan mod that was installed there is a thin metal wire with a thermometer going into the radiator hose connected to the thermostat housing wasn't sealed right and created a tiny pin leak so i moved the wire to another spot on the hose and it quit spraying and now i can turn the wheels.

Is there another spot i can relocate the fan mod thermometer to another location or is there a better switch to use cause i dont want this to happen again....ill try to take pics when my elbow comes in

Thanks for the help!!!
