Thanks Y2K, It'll be July before I can buy any though. Of course at that point I may as well put in a cam too. I may just wait till this motor dies then build the crap out of it. Being a cop engine there's no telling how long it'll last anyway lol. It needs a rear gear and some paint and rims first. Would these iron heads be worth anything or are they boat anchors?

Pretty much boat anchors but you could throw them on craigslist and maybe get some beer money out of them.

I have the same issue with the 95 I just bought. I was looking at both those heads my self...LOL.

Hey did you make sure it was an LT1 instead of an L99? I got lucky and most of the accessories was off the engine which made it easy to tell. Just don't want to see anyone get took.

I was always curious does the L99 have the same exact intake manifold as the 350

I have heard that there are a few differences but I don't know what they are. I had to find the casting number for mine ( a blast on a fourth gen!).

OH man, I don't know. Since mine's a 93 and has the MAP sensor I know they used the camaro intake. Concidering mine has the awful 2:73 gear I think it would be pitifully weak if it was an L99. Is there any way to tell without getting the casting number? Is it in the back like other GM motors?

Well I done some hunting and found out there is a large 3-digit casting number just underneath the drivers side head. 327 is the number for the 5.7 and 588 is the 4.3.

I looked at the mortec web site and the heads i have are for the LT1. The L99 heads are different so I'm pretty sure I atleast have an LT1

The Lt1 was first used in the Corvette, the LT1 for the "B" cars came a year later, and although the heads were of cast iron, they actually flowed better than the aluminum heads. The were two versions of the LT1 for the "B" cars, including those for police use. Externally they looked the same, but they had different displacements; 350 cu in and 265 cu in (L99). The 265 is not a good choice except for somewhat better fuel economy. The iron heads used a lower compression to prevent detonation. The Lt1 used in the "B" body was rated 10 HP less (265 HP vs 275 HP/ 285 HP) than the one used in the "F" body. Mainly due to lower compression and milder cam.
