i just bought my 2001 Z28 today. and it smells like gas,... like when i stop at a stop light, i guess since its a convertible i can smell it even more so. Does anybody know what might be wrong with it? It runs like a dream, the shocks are kinda squeeky. But other than that its fine.

 

ya know when it had a tune up last?

 

check your fuel lines from the tank to the motor. check for discolored dirt or clean area. check to see if fuel filter may be leaking. also could be evap. maybe as simple as a new gas cap.

 

i went to autozone today to have them check the service engine soon light. they said the knock sensor is off,... could that be contributing to this?

 

knock sensor will usually make it run rough with no power. may be masking something else though. if its bad change them or it.

 

what exactly is it? and it is a replacement i can do myself?

 

well its a sensor that screws into the block. if the motor is knocking like if u use regular gas and lug the car the sensor will tell the computer and it will retard the timing so the motor wont knock. not sure on the 01 i think they may have two. my 93 has 1 on the passanger side of the block about 2/3rds of the way towards the back almost behind the end of the starter. i had to unbolt the starter to get it out of the way, didnt have to remove the wires. (unhook battery if u do this) its not hard. you might want to pick up a dealer service manual for your yr car. heres a site i found real quick just so u know what to look for. spendy at this site at 110. its a three book set for your yr though. the one for my truck was a two book set and it was almost as much.
