Default Skip Shift removal impressions

I plan on buying the SLP skip shift remover solenoid for my 1999 Z28 LS1.

However, I also know it removes the same thing that controlls/prevents you from shifting into gears that may prevent damage (aka not allowing you to downshift to 1st gear at 55mph accidentally) and the same thing that prevents you to shift into the badly (IMO) placed reverse gear when the car is moving forward.

I know if you get the skip shift remover you remove these "safety" features, and that you just have to play it safer and be more cautious on what you are doing when you shift. However, I was just wondering, for those of you that have done this (as I know many of you have), is it easy to shift into the reverse gear moving at around highway speeds on accident? I can see shifting into 5th or 6th and accidentally going into reverse being pretty easy... and that would suck.

Is it pretty much common sense or is it actually hard not to shift it into reverse at times?

Thanks in advance guys.

Chris

The reverse lockout is a different solonoid.

Is it really? I've heard three people say that the same solenoid controls all of that, even one of the moderators. That would be amazing if the reverse lockout was not effected. Do you have this done to your Camaro, or do you just know from prior knowledge/experience?

Thanks man

When my car was a 6 speed I did. There are two plugs on the trans near the shifter, one for Skip Shift and one for reverse lockout.

When I bought the car it was my first manual, had the bypass for the skip shift, and had a Hurst short throw. I'm still an amatuer, but rarely have the problem of shifting into the wrong gear even with the short throw shifter. If I can handle it without it, I'm sure you shouldn't have a problem.

I finally installed a skip shift eliminator along with a Hurst billet shifter a month ago. BOY do I love the difference!!!! THOSE CHANGES MADE. Can't wait to get the 52mm throttle body installed too. Wish I had done the skip shift eliminator earlier!!!!!
