Default Shifter Rattle

I bought my WS6 with an aftermarket Hurst short throw. I love the tight pattern but the damn thing rattles like hell. In town it's not really noticeable, it's when I'm on the interstate or highway. I'll drop it in 6th, running 85 or 90, and it just rattles and vibrates, sounds like metal on metal. All I have to do is keep my hand on the ball and it eliminates the problem but occasionally having to do this gets annoying, any advice?

Default RE: Shifter Rattle

Is it just the shifter ball, or the entire upper half of the shift stick?

If it's the shift stick, then tighten up the bolts better, also, where it joins you should use a small gasket there, this drastically will help reduce vibration.

If it's the ball, then it may just need to be tighten down better, or the threads are striped and it may need to be replaced, although pipe tape could be a short term fix.

If neither of those solve the problem, check the stops at the top and bottom of the shifter plate (that part that sits ontop of the tranny and has two screws, one at the top, and one at the bottom, the screws are the stops), and make sure that the stops are in the proper postion. When in 3rd/4th the stop should be 1/8th of a turn away from the bottom of the stick when the stick is in gear.
