shift lever stuck

Thumbs down shift lever stuck

On my 98 v6, its very hard to push the button dwn and shift tjrough gears.

its usually toughest in the mornings on cold start up

My brake lights wrk, so i dnt think its the brake pedal switch..

Neone else hav this issue?
neone knw how to fix?

Advise is appreciated. Thank

My buddy had it happen on his 92. We just took off the shifter and put a new one on that did not have a button on it.

The button itself is a very simple mechaincal devise. Your going to have to remove the console and see if there is anything in there. At that point you could disconnect the cable and see it the stiffness is coming from the shifter itself or the cable/tranny.

Don't forget, a little oil can go a long way. Your shifter and linkage at the trans might be whining for a lube job.

either someone dumped a bunch of soda on it and its all sticky or the shift linkage needs adjusting. number 41 here 4th Gen LT1 F-Body Tech Aids

theres a little clip on the front side of the shift ****, looks kinda like a staple. pull it out and the **** will come off. with that offf you should be able to get the shift plate off the console to see if anything is gummed up. check the button on the shift **** to see if its moving free, push on the top of the shfter and see if that shaft will move freely.

Mine was doing exact same thing. It ended up being the solenoid needed spraying with WD40. Fixed it up big time cause it was sticky in mornings. It got to point i could not get it out of park.
