Shift Interlock questions
I searched and found multiple diff posts of varying detail but none seem complete covering the cable AND a solenoid. Many speak of an interlock cable and some of and interlock switch on the brake pedal and a solenoid under the console. Does anyone have some definitive info on if there are both and if both are needed to be functional to shift it out of park, etc.? Mine wont shift out of park all the sudden this morning and I had to drive the spare Honda (Hiss!) PS, mine is a 97 V6 auto.
Thanks Craby! So, the way I see it the cable goes into the steering column and somehow is triggered from the key being turned on mechanically to allow the shifter to be moved out of part. AND the brake pedal has a switch that activated the solenoid to also allow the shift lever to be taken out of park. I also assume BOTH of these need to be corking at same time and if either have an issue the shifter cannot be taken out of park, correct? I noticed there was no pic showing specifically what switch or wires on the pedal are related to the brake switch to activate the solenoid. Do you happen to have that info?
gota go fishin, have a look here under electrical and see if its got the brake switch wiring. 4th Gen LT1 F-Body Tech Aids
I fixed it. The Interlock solenoid was simply stuck. I had to disconnect it and then noticed it was real stickly so I sprayed WD40 down it. Works fine and in now way easier to get out of Park. As an FYI, the solenoid does not pull in under power. It simply allows you to release/ extend it. kind of works in reverse what you would think it does.
