Default SES light on

I've been driving my 96 3.8 Camaro for about a year now. Ever since I bought the car my SES light has been coming on and off. I brought my car up to Auto Zone two weeks back to finally see what the deal is and the guy at the first Auto Zone couldn't get his programmer to even turn on. The guy at the second Auto Zone said that the SES light doesn't throw up any codes. Is this true? He also notified me that myharnessunder the dash must have some faulty wiring and I would have to get it to a dealer to getit checked out. I change the oil every 3k miles. I checked just about everything I can imagine that would set it off, from loose connections to tranny and radiator fluid. Could a bad oxygen sensor be at fault? How many oxygen sensors are on the car, from what I could see there was one before the catalytic converter and one after, is there one in each header too?I'm just trying to figure out which ones to consider.

Four sensors. One on each exhaust manifold, one before, and one after the converter. The only time I've the light come on, and go off light you've been having, is random misfires. Many things feed into turning on the SES light.

Well sometimes it does something that may not have anything to do with it but I'm gonna go ahead and tell you anyway. Usually in the morning when it's really cold out I'll get in my car fire it up everything is fine and light is usually on but I'll go to pull out of my subdivision and get on the gas a bit to try and warm the car up, it seems as though from 2nd-3rd gear the tranny screws up. It happens when I'm flooring it or close to flooring it, it's as though it starts to hit 3rd but then stops midway or something and the rpm gauge just bounces in the low5k range then it will finally hits the next gear. I'm baffled because the SES light is still the only light on.

There is a code that the computer will set off if the transmissino starts slipping. P1870 I believe (not 100% sure). That would cause the SES light to come on. Get your transmission checked out. How does the fluid look?
