Default Reverse problems

Ok here is my problem i have a 1995 5 speed 3.4L v6 1st gear through 5th gear work fine. Reverse will go in but grinds like it is not in all the way i asked my mechanic what to do and he told me to find the bleeder valve on the slave cylinder and bleed the system. But i have looked all over that cylinder there is not one please help me anyone. I still owe $1400.00 on this car...Josh

i always made it a habit to put it in first gear then shift to reverse. if i don't thenreverse grinds sometiems as it goes in.even with the new transmission i had installed a couple weeks ago. this is only my second manual vehicle, maybe they're all like that?

It sounds like your mechanic is suggesting that your clutch isn't disengaging fully. If that was the case, I would expect you to be crunching the gears in first as well. I've had a similar experience before,on adifferent car. Has the oil in the tranny ever been changed? The old oil could be the problem. Also, with a higher mileage trans, you maywant to step up to a slightly thicker viscosity oil to help keep the sloppier internalsfrom free-wheeling as easily after you depress the clutch pedal.

mines like that, you pretty much have to go to first 1st then put it in reverse. My first manual was like that too....

yea, i can get it in without 1st, but i'd prefer it not to grind. it's weird because if i try to slowly put it in reverse it will grind. i can raise the shifter towards neutral and the grinding will die away, then it goes in gear. ah, who cares, my car feels great again with the new transmission and slave cylinder lol. no more stupid whining, i hated that.
