Question replacing the a/c unit on my 2000 camaro

Okay, so yes I did bite off more than I probly can do. But, tomorrow I am going to try and replace the a/c compressure. I have been sitting and reading all the things that I am to do. Can anyone take the time to sit and tell me all the things that I don't know to do. I have read the Haynes book and read a few things here. I guess that I am worried about the discharging.

pick up a dealer service/shop manual for your yr and model. its actually not legal to discharge the stuff into the open air. to do it right have it discharged at a shop, do the work and have it recharged at a shop. the oil, ac fluid mixture needs to be right. u could find a open spot and let er lose if the inviroment is not high on your list.
