When I press the button to heat up my rear windshield if its got frost on it or just got steamed up the button turns on and works great but depending on how long it wants to work it turns off by itself and when i want to turn it back on it won't do so unless i wait approximately 5-10 minutes, what might be causing this problem? a old fuse?

 

those bad boys use a whole lotta current thats why the automatically turn off.. how long do u have it on before it turns itself off?

 

its never a certain amount of time sometimes its on for 2 minutes sometimes it stays up for 10 minutes and sometimes i have to turn it off myself because it did its job.

 

That is so you don't kill the battery and overheat the back window and cause it to crack.

 

yeah but sometimes it dosen't even get the steam off the window or just works for 2 minuites and after it turns off i can't turn it on

 

Mine will not remove the foggy steam from the glass but it takes out the ice really good. The controller for the defrost will heat up to a certain point (it knows this by the amount of current the heating elements draw) then hold for a few and then shut off and start a recycle timer. You have to wait till the elements cool before starting them back up. This is to prevent shattering the glass or burning up the elements. Your car is working normal.

yes, plus how many othre electrical stuff do u have on? do u have those sub-woofer speaker things? is the blower motor on high? experiment and see what can make it stay on longer.

 

check your wires and connection at the window, theres a ground connector there that likes to go bad.

 

Do you have a pic of this ground connection? My defrost light comes on but instantly turns off when i let go of the button, im assuming bad connection somewhere and its just defaulting out to save the window.

 

its at the plugin on the passenger side of the hatch. i re soldered mine.
