Default Rear-view mirror reglue

Well the rear-view mirror fell off today. I noticed a pad on the glass where the button was glued originally. Is there a special glue or way to reglue the button for Camaros? I've reglued these before, but have always glued the button directly to the glass. Never had a pad like this. Which is kinda nice since it's obvious where to glue the thing.

i think the pad is to stop moisture from forming between metal and glass.

I read in a few places that regular superglue will work. Some posts say that the stuff in the re-glue kits, for rear view mirrors is just superglue. Others say it isn't. I had some good superglue (Scotch brand) sitting in the drawer and decided to give it a try. I left the pad on, cleaned it a bit with a dry cloth and made sure all the old glue was off the button and cleaned it as well. Put a couple of small drops on the button and held it in place for minute on the pad. This was four days ago and so far the mirror is still up there. I live in Fl, and even this time of year it gets hot and the glass has full sun all day, sooo, so far so good. Heck the kits are only a few bucks, but why not give it a shot. The pad may turn out to be a help here. I've read where some say to remove it and glue to the glass.. I went with the reasoning that it was there for a reason initially. Anyway a very simple thing, but may come in handy for some.
