if you're going to do a gear change you don't want to mess with 3:23. i just took mine out and went to a 3:42, but 3:73 is what most people recommend. rear end work can be expensive and a lot of mechanics don't do it. and yes it will mess with your speedometer. i'm about 8 mph off now

You know, it would be a lot cheaper for you to sabotage your friends car instead!

I want to go 4:10 for my street car. A buddy of mine went 3:73 and regrets it. he wishes he had gone 4:10

Whammer is right if you are going to gear it o with a 3.73 or 4.10. I am going to go 4.10 in my 96. Hell I might go 4.30 lol!! Everytime I gear a car I wished I would have went bigger and most other people do too!

If you have an auto 4.10 is pretty steep for street applications. I'd suggest going for 3.73 if you're having custom rear end work done. You could also consider finding a wrecked six speed Camaro or Firebird in a junkyard and just completely swapping out your rear end, that way you'll have the 3.42 gears and you don't have to worry about the issues that you run into with new gears. As far as the speedo goes, you can have the PCM reprogrammed to accommodate the new gears since the car has an electronic speedo.

i can put them in my car at my school im training to be a mechanic and ive helped my teacher do it before so it wont be to bad expense wise. see i drive my car every day and probably around 50 miles a day i want a gear ratio that will help my launch alot harder but i still want to get reasonable gas millage

Don't get anything bigger than 3.73's then, you may want to go for the 3.42's if you drive that far every day.

now that was funny! anyway...i have 3:42's in my car though i haven't really driven it since the install because it's put away for the winter. it pulled harder i can tell you that. maybe you should be looking for a torque convertor...just an idea
