rear end ?
I have a 96 3800 camaro.. the rear end been making some kind of humming noise... at first i thought it was the gear whine, then i thought it may have been the wheel bearings since the car has 86k miles and they never been repacked.. i just replaced the wheel bearings and i still have the whine, although its not as bad its still there... now you would think since its 'not as bad' that it was possibly the bearings A (driver side axle housing has scoring but not bad), but im thinking its the gears... anyway i want to replace them.. should i get the gear and pinion set with the crush sleeves and all that crap? or should i just go to a yard and take the rear end of a z28? If i did get them from a yard i could probably ****** the speed sensor too... i was just wondering what you pros thought... btw im new to camaros so some one please enlighten me... car will be seeing ALOT of highway duty
last summer i had the same problem, i had that humming noise and i had to get the differential rebuilt, i still get the humming noise but it goes away after i hit 1st gear, before i had the humming noise the whole time while driving
Get some aftermarket gears. What brand in particular, I don't know, but if you've got the rear discs, you aren't getting a better axle if you pluck a Z version...
It's still the same crummy 10-bolt.
