rear differential issues
just got new ring and pinion put in. went from 323's to 373's. right off it whines at between 40 and 60 and vibrated above 60. whine would quit when i let off the throttle. so i figured i would wait a week and see if it cleared up. adjusted the torque bar and it helped. soo now it still whines the same but is doing it worse after diving for 40 or so miles. its also vibrating at 40 and above after the car is driven for a while. questions, will a bad wheel bearing do all this or only the whine? will the hub on the reared vibrate like that if its not torqued right?

Well if the gears are not lashed up properly you will get just what you are talking about. Also bearings can cause the vibes but no so much a whining. They usually make a howl, or a grinding sound. I would check the gear lash if you did the work yourself if not I would bring it back to the shop that swapped the gears.

The bad part about working on rears is that just about any mistake you make shows up as a whine. If you get the pre load wrong on the pinion it will whine, If the back lash is wrong you get a whine and if the preload on the diff is not right you get a whine. The old timer that taught me said if it whines it aint right time aint going to make it better.

Unlike wine, rear end whine does not get better with age, if anything is will get worse. There is no such thing as waiting for the ring and pinion to break in and quiet down, although the people that put them in insist otherwise.

A buddy of mine had a Ford 9" that was making a whining noise. Luckily, he took it in and got it fixed up.
