The Diff Carrier is what holds the ring. Not sure if you can use your carrier with the Z gears... Also the Axles may be different as well. These cars have like 4 different axels depending on year and options.

Ok so the carriers are the same between 3 channel and 4 channel. I'd post the info but my comp isn't letting me. Just trying to find out how the reluctor ring gets installed now. I also found out that a 4 channel can be used as a 3 channel it just involves drilling out the hole for the sensor and having the ring put on the carrier.

Ok just found out the rest of the info and again the comp isn't letting me put it up. Arg. So the reluctor ring is press fitted on and to be removed you undo the gear from the carrier and then gently tap off the ring in the same direction as the gears. To reinstall put ring on then gears and tighten up in a cross pattern. Doing this will press the reluctor ring into place. Wish I could post up this info for everyone to see.

we had another guy ask about the same thing. he gave up when it came to trying to drill the hole and have it line up correctly. so have you found out if the new unit is 3 or 4 yet?

No I'm waiting to hear back from the guy to look at it. I have found all the info involved with drilling the hole for the sensor tho. So if it does turn out to be a 4 then I'll give it a shot. I'm pretty sure my carpentry skill will help out with the machinework. If it goes bad then I'll just swap the internals. If it goes good then I'll have to do a write up.

ok heres some info about drilling holes in the diff:
1. Locate a spare ABS sensor and reluctor wheel on ebay or in the classifieds section, or simply use the ones off the old or broken rear

2. Scribe and mark a spot on the boss on top of the pumpkin 7/8" (0.875") in the y position from the 10mm screw hole

3. Drill a 1/4" diameter pilot hole and check that the ABS sensor will indeed line up.

4. Drill a 13/16" (0.8125") diameter hole concentric to the pilot hole you have just made. As teh housing is cast there is no lub needed, just go at high speed in small plunge incriments, i used 0.050" inch increments

5. Ream by hand using a oversized 13/16" Reamer (0.8130 - 0.8135) with WD-40.

The ABS sensor will fit snug and torque down the 10mm bolt.

Now when you go to install the posi the reluctor ring that gets pressed on with the ring gear should line up with the sensor.

now once i find out about that diff which was supposed to be tonight but will hopefully be in the next few night now i'll test all that out. i've also find out that you can use the 3 channel diff and swap everything from a 4 channel into it including disc brake mounts and axels and use it as a 3 channel or even a 4 channel. its kinda crazy what you can find searching through other forums spending half a day doing this. gotta love sick days.

Ok so I just talked to the guy and I'm going to get it Saturday. Also it's from a nontraction control car. So here's the next question. Should i replace all the bushings in the suspension parts? I'm planning on doing the shocks while it's out and probably the springs too. So would it be a good time to do all this as well? And is there a spec somewhere to find out if the springs have sagged at all?

Ok so last question. Since it's a 96 will the PCM accept the gear change tune? Or am I going to have to get a 97 PCM and have it tuned?

ya know i found that a new adjustable panhard bar and boxed lower control arms come with new bushings. lol. and you dont have to wrestle with the old bushings to get them out. i read a couple posts that said gettin the old ones out is a pain.
