rear diff
 

Ok so Im planning on going to pick up a rear diff for my 1996 3.8L camaro tonight. the one i'm going to look at is out of a 98 z28. so heres my question would the rear calipers from the 93-97's fit on it? i know that the 98+ have larger calipers but would that make a difference? I'm asking this as I can get the rear calipers for the 93-97 from a guy who parted out an ss. would they work or am i best off to get all new ones for a 98? just trying to save a little since i'm going to need all the equipment for the rear breaks. Also am I going to need a new park brake cable or will mine work?

if i remember correctly the ls brake caliper mounts are different and to mount the smaller less effective brakes you would need to fab a bracket. guys pay good money to switch to the larger system. i would say with it. so the 96 has traction control?

No it doesn't have traction control. Is that going to be a problem tho?

If the diff already has the rear disk brakes then leave them there you should be able to hook up your stuff to that system. BUT! what is the ABS system in both cars? 3 channel has one brake line feeding both calipers and one speed sensor on the diff, where 4 channel has a line for left and right and speed sensors at the wheels. This is very improtant stuff to know before trying to hook everything up.

^^^^ yep, if you dont have traction control (4 channel) you will want a rearend that is the same as yours (3 channel). i dont know if they made a 3 channel for the 98-up camaro, i thought they were all 4 channel.

I'm not to sure what my 96 has. I'll have to have a look. I know it's just a drum brake system tho. I'm going to guess that the z diff is a 4 channel tho. Is there a way to make it work if my 96 is just a 3 and the z is a 4? Or would I be best off to just swap the gears and carrier and keep the drum brakes?

Yea you can get 3 channel in 98+ but you have to get the V6 or TC delete Z28. Also ALL 99+ cars have rear disk only.

There is no easy way to make it work. The carrier on the 3 channel has the reluctor ring on it where the 4 channel they are on the axles. Just make sure you have the same as you have from what ever you pull it off of.

On the ABS units you can tell by the # of hoses comming off. 5 lines is 3 channel and 6 if 4 channel. Also look at the diff, if it has 2 lines coming from the body it is 4 channel.

Is there a way to get the reluctor ring to switch around if I have to? It's just bolted on isn't it?

Ok so I have the 3 channel. So I'm hoping that the diff is also going to be a 3 channel or find out if the reluctor ring is just bolted on and can be switch.
