Default Rattling Exhaust

Okay I was in a wreck awhile back and I ended up in a ditch. I crushed my exhaust so I had to completely replace it. I replaced it with an exhaust system from CarQuest. Well where my exhaust needed to be clamped together was over this bar that ran horizontally across the car. ( I was told it was there to keep the driveshaft up if it ever snapped?! ) Anyway the standard exhaust clamp rattles against that bar, and I can't get a welder in there to weld it either. So do I just put up with the rattle or is there another way to clamp my exhaust?

You might have to take the clamp off and grind that side down a little to keep it from hitting.

Mine rattled for awhile and I could never figure it out on my own, so I finally had to take it to a shop (Meineke); they said my exhaust had bent enough to where it rattled on that crossbar you are talking about (the one that goes around the transmission).

They said it was pretty common for them to do that, and bent it back up at no charge since it was an easy fix.

That bar is only a couple inches wide, so moving your bracket in either direction should fix the problem - if it can be moved. But if the rattling continues after moving the bracket, then its most likely the actual exhaust pipe hitting against the crossbar.

If all else fails, I would suggest taking it to a shop that offers to give your car a "look over" for free, as I did. Let them know what is going on, and what will they have to do to fix it; if you feel comfortable doing that, anyway.

(Is anyone else having problems using the Apostrophe button? It brings up a search feature when I press it; I get sad)
