Default Ram air vs Cold Air

I am going to be changing my intake in my 96 Z28 and I cant decide whether to go with a cold air intake or a ram air. Which will give me the best performance and most hp gain? Or is it really just preferance?

Depends on where the ram air intake is located, the one on the SS if pretty ineffective in general due to location. This one is likely much more effective:

the ram air package on an SS does give more performance, but to use it you need the ram air hood and all. you'd be much better off just getting a cold air intake or changing over to an LS1 intake

To a point, when you're going fast enough, to some degree the air just passes over the scoop and is less effective -- according to SLP.

i agree...but over all it is better than the stock set up.

but a CAI is a better route than to modify everything to go with a ram-air setup

on my 94Z I had the SLP cold air intake that goes over to the driver side and under the engine bay getting cold air. Its 2 tubes in black but I polished it making it mirror shiny! but it does a really good job.
