Default radio power issue

so ever since my family brought the car home we have had this issue and want to see if you guys (and girls) have any ideas.
sooo randomly, the radio will completely shut off, the display even turns off. no music or anything related can be used. it even affects the windows so when this happens i can't put the windows down. my brother found out if you hit the dash it sometimes pops back on but i am hesitant to beat the interior. it can happen anywhere from 4 times every trip to never during a whole week.

if you guys have any clues it would be appreciated

Is it aftermarket or stock radio? Probably will need to start checking some wiring harness connections and grounds. Check the fuse panels to make sure fuses are fitting snug into the sockets and that none of the sockets have overheated and melted.

it is the stock stereo/radio. although the lady before me had an xm/sirius and when she sold it to use they just tore out the wiring that they ran somewhere through the dash to hide. my dad thinks they started riping the wrong things and now some connection is partially attached.

but thanks i will check on that stuff.

Could be a loose connection, but being that the windows are also affected, the BCM may be intermittent.

A short in a 12v line that goes to the stereo and windows might be at fault if they wired it incorrectly or removed it wrong. Take a look first and trace the 12v on the stereo. See what your hitting yo make it turn back on.

Thanks so much. I'm going to try to get to that sometime this week and I'll get back to tell how it goes.
