I'm not sure about other states, but in PA it's a law for cops to have their lights on if they're speed trapping. Well, I should say they're suppose to, not all do. So at night, they're pretty obvious where they're sitting. During the day, it just helps to be familiar with the areas and where they tend to sit. That's how I 'radar detect' but it would be easier to take a break and have some electronics do it for me. I only speed because people here go 5-10 under the speed limit on beautiful, dry days. It gets frustrating.

The Beltronics 995 would be the best detector you can get under $200, I personally own the Beltronics RX65 but its over $200. Try to stay away from the Cobra units if you can because they dont compare to the Beltronics, Escort & Valentine detectors. See the comparison chart.

I have the escort 9500. Its $500 so I know that's a little out of your price range but when it comes to radar detectors, the cheap ones suck. I had me a cheap little cobra one for 80 bucks and it detected a radar just a few blocks down the road. My 8500 on flat land pick up radars within a mile 1/2

Damn, For $500, I'd rather just drive conservatively, Get Better MPG, Save the $500, and save the $XXX for if it fails and you still get a ticket.
But then again, Ask me again when I get an LS1

my brother who owned my 3.8 before me was driving home one night and after turning on to a road, he gunned it. the police man sitting at a light that he passed estimated him going 80 in a 35 and pulled him over. over a year later in his first court appearance the policeman dropped the charges because he didn't have "definitive data."

what im saying is that maybe they do go through this course, but it didn't really matter in this case.

The 8500 is NOT $500. A brand new red display one is $329.99, blue is $359.99. And as I said before, a good used Passport 8500 X50 (you want the X50 model)is around the $200 range on ebay. I have 5 vehicles, and I have one in each car.

Ah, I can already see how immature you are. Going the speed limit won't get you any speeding tickets and you could put the $200-$500 that you saved into upgrades. The smart person would take this route.
