Default power steering fluid

On my 02 SS it is always wet around the power steering fluid filler cap, is the cap just not sealing and I need a new one? Anybody else have this issue before. It never really seems like it is going down tho and it has always been at a good level. But the mess always comes back so im not sure what to do.

See if you can find a replacement gasket for the cap, if not, replace the cap. If the leak stops, then that was the source.
That's the logical place to start anyway.

^^^ probly the gasket failing or gone. if the fluid level is to the upper full mark when its cold then it may be expanding when it heats up and overflowing. might try keeping it at the lower full level. also clean it up good and see if it is in fact overflowing and not making its way out a crack or break that you can not see.

I have the same issue on both my RS & SS, I will have to find the thread again on LS1Tech, but the issue is greater than just the cap/gasket as I recall -- something about the design of the system.

Make sure not to overfill, use the markers on the little dipstick attached to the cap, Check level when fluid is hot. Overfilling will cause the oil to push out through the cap as it expands. Also make sure you are using the recommended type of fluid, and that it does not foam when it gets churned up by the pump.

I will try running it a little bit lower and see what happens with that. Doesnt seem to be coming out anywhere other then around the cap.
