No it won't. Why do you think radiator caps have a pressure rating. It's because when you operate the car it makes pressure. A compression test will let you know if you have a combustion leak in the heads, piston rings, or headgasket. Id look there first before investing in fixing the leak to see if its even worth fixing.

 

agree^^^ in may be a intake gasket or several other things that are not that hard or costly. although it would be a good time to install new headgaskets if you dont have time or the bucks then find the problem. it would be best to find the problem before the grows. if you do get coolant in the oil and run it the motor is toast so preventive is a good thing on these motors.

 

Should i do the pressure thing to see whats wrong, or buy the kit to test for gases. Or whats cheaper and or more efficent to help me figure out if if i blew anything. The car doesnt seem to have a loss of power if that makes a difference.

 

Does it matter what anyone is telling you, first thing you should do is park the thing until you know for sure what, if anything is wrong so you don't make it worse.

 

i would do a compression test first, its cheapest, not the easiest on some of the cylinders. if they came out good then i would do a coolant pressure test. i have had a cracked block that a oil test would have worked on. did not lose coolant and compression came out low, just below the line on one cylinder, changed head gaskets with no change. it was cracked low on the cylinder wall where i couldnt see it. anyways one of the two tests should tell you more of what is going on

 

I went to the shop to use their cooling system pressure tester but for some reason they didnt use it. They looked in the coolant when it was at normal operation tempature and saw bubbles. I could rent a pressure tester from the store but dont have time. I took pictures of the oil note the one picture that looks like dry mud, is dry coolant, and the other picture shows the coolant being brown. The oil doesnt appear to be milky. I also noticed a spot on the ground, the picture was taken front the right side of the car in the front. My car is leaking power steering fluid alot so that might be it. After overheating i still drove the car to town and put about fifty miles since. I have stopped driving the car. Any opinions.

 

You have the orginal orange coolant in there. If you do not change that every 4-5 years it becomes mud like. I have seen radiator so plugged they could not be saved. It was cheaper to replace them then to try to get it clean. .

Bubbles at operating temp is not a good sign. I would still pressure test it but my guess would be head gaskets. Oil looks good.

 

Oil looks good? He's about 8 ounces low!

 

^^^ gorn is on it. old coolant will eat the head and intake gaskets. in order to save a considerable amount of time and money i would change both and flush the system to see if radiator can be saved. do not flush motor and radiator at the same time.
