if one is going to pay 9 to 12 k for hard top 6 speed ,then why not convert above to a 6 speed tranny ,that was 2 owner car sold $4500.00,the guy realy needed the money ,not sure we talked about your budget ,other then the one you looked at was under.4000.00,i would have jumped on that for the value alone ,the cars value was like 9k with the low miles an 2 owners ? newyork camaro what the budget ,this car could have been resold for profet

I was looking to stay under $8,000.

I bought the car I've got for $6,500, with 71k miles on it.
It needs new struts, shocks, u-joints, needed to have the dash fuse panel cleaned out, with all new fuses, new GM wiring harness kit, new single-din mount, new head unit, and all new speakers. Needed window motors, and needs tie rods replaced.

Inner tie rod ends, and window motors were included. Everything else so far is replace at-cost.

I spent about $970 for all of the audio and electrical issues in the dash so far, but of course that could have been significantly cheaper if it hadn't been my ears making the decision there, and had been my wallet.
I'm going to end up spending around $370 in parts for the shocks, struts, U-Joints, and other little toggle switches and buttons (doors, locks, etc.) that are all worn out and broken inside.
If I can't get the u-joints done myself at home on the drive shaft, I'll end up taking it somewhere to have those replaced, which isn't likely I don't think, it doesn't look too daunting... then the rest is pretty easy with the right tools. I don't have the tools, but I can rent them for fairly cheap locally back in Tallahassee.

The car I got, overall for what I've been able to find in FL and GA area still, seems to be around the best price for a mechanically sound 98-02 in my $8,000 or less price range. Granted the U-joints are shoddy, but that's not too difficult there.

So I paid $6,500 for car, and we'll just say $500 in parts to replace running items like the outer tie rod ends, and shocks & struts, assuming worst case.

Still, $7,000 total, without my expensive audio choices. Say, probably $7,700 with cheaper co-axial audio replacements, and replacing the old monsoon amp.

[QUOTE=Thefoodman52;705339]I was looking to stay under $8,000.

I bought the car I've got for $6,500, with 71k miles on it.
It needs new struts, shocks, u-joints, needed to have GA ,is your a hard top 6 speed ,i guess you did good otherwise ,most car with under 100.000 ,like the one i mentioned needed nothing done to it ,i would have been upset to have to put anything into a car i paid 6500.00 for other then oil or antifreeze ,for that kinda money an ss can be had ,if one does not need to 6 speed hard top ,like my 99 if one got covertable with all the options new v6 , they could have paid ,1000.00 more then the base z28 with t tops v8, some dont relize the 4 gens covertables lose value , some ,think there still worth more ,i seen 3 ss cars with under 65.000 miles for 6000.00 an under ,in the last month ,all sold now ,they go fast

Nope, unfortunately.

It's a 4l60E, T-Tops.

This was the best I could do for the mileage it has on it.
All the other cars were either older LT1's with 110k+ going for ~$4,500, or there were a couple 2000-2002's with 220k+ miles going for $3,000-4,000. People are proud of their old 4th gen's around here for some reason.
All of these other ones also either had major leaking going on with the hatches or T-Tops, transmissions needed repair, paint was completely gone, or the interior was trashed.

I took the lesser of the evils with mine around here.
I got mine, with it's few problems, and honestly don't feel like I can complain too much.
He gave me an extra set of original re-finished wheels with new Z rated tires on them (even if they are cheaper tires) to go with the optional chrome wheels that were on the car with some slightly used Z rated tires on it.

He also threw in a couple of window motors that he never got around to replacing (as I found out later why, it's annoying to drill out the door panels the first time you replace them), and two new inner tie-rod ends.

The seals on the tops are still pretty new, interior has new carpet and the leather isn't in horrible shape.

Just depends on what time when you buy I guess. Dictates the price. Right now, people are mighty proud of theirs here in FL/GA.

Oh, I did test drive an '02 Z28. Mad piston slap going in the engine when we first rolled it over. Had something like 238k miles on it, guy was asking $4,500 *firm* for it.
I told him, politely, to kick rocks for that. It was all stock as well.
He called me back the next day with a real sweet offer, lol. $4,000 and it could be mine. Golley-gee willikers, it took everything in me to tell him no on that one.

I contacted that guy a while back and he sent me some pictures of the car. Its pewter and a t-top car. Wrong color and T-tops, but its ok because my search came to an end on Monday.

I found a one owner hardtop car and I bought it Monday night.
