Default Please help with CPS...

I just tried doing a search on this but not much luck..My crankshaft positioning sensor is bad. I think I can replace it without too much trouble. Has anyone done this or know a thread where it is explained? Oh yeah I have a 96 z28. The guy I bought it from said he put in a engine with a firehawk block...idk, I figure its still a Lt1 so it still takes the same cps. any help much appreciated. thanks.

Clean the harness connections at the sensor before buying a new one.
Considering it's vulnerable location, crud in the connection could be a factor over it being an actual sensor failure.

The CPS in your car does not affect engine performance, it's only purpose is to detect misfires. Could be that the previous owner replaced the engine with an earlier model one, like a 95 or older LT1, which did not use a physical CPS, and the PCM is setting a code because it can't find one. Could be the previous owner is BS-ing about changing the CPS. Check the front cover.

heres a front cover for the 96-97, see the part sticking out towards the bottom, thats where the crank sensor goes.

If you fix the problem the light will eventually go out. If you don't fix the problem it will stay on, or come back on even if you clear the codes with a scanner.

You can go to most of the mechanics and ask em to scan it and afterwards ask em to reset the cod
