Default heat works when it wants to?

So im d riving today and its freakin cold! I turn the car on drive and when the temperature meter strikes the middle i turn on the heat the car heats very crappy but then when i come to a stop it blows hot air and then stops all of the sudden as i keep driving the heats goes up and down with the warmth and towords the end of the jurny it was simply blowing hot air like crazy so i had to turn it off what might be the reason for this?

CHeck your coolant level and purge the air out of the top of the engine. Mine does the same thing when I either get some air trapped in the top of the T-stat housing or my coolant level gets too low

I dont have any pics of the purge valve with me right now. You have a 3.8L right? If so look on the thermostat housing and you will see a little screw-like thing. It takes a standard screwdriver. Get the engine hot with the radiator cap off and then open that screw up. All the air and steam that is built up at the top of the engine will "purge" out the hole in that screw (that screw is called a purge valve or bleeder screw). watch your water level when you do this it should drop and it prolly will drop pretty fast. Refil any coolant and repeat process 5 times or until only liquid comes out the hole.

Follow the top radiator hose... drivers side and the T-stat housing is on the intake.

OK look guy... Find the big hose on the drivers side of the engine, follow it to the engine block and there you will find the thermostat housing, on the thermostat housing you will find this little brass bleeder screw. You cant miss it. I right now cant, let me repeat this CANT get pictures of my car to show you.

sebi, pick yourself up a factory service manual for your yr camaro. they are way better than any of the aftermarket books. heres what they look like, 3 book set. you may find a better deal, or not.
