yup in many ways. First is from a bad head gasket. These can cause water to be "burnt". Next place that is common with the 3.8L is the lower intake gasket, which can leak water into the oil (bad) or onto the ground (not as bad). If you go to Autozone you can borrow a coolant system pressure tester and see if you have a leak somewhere.

I've noticed my engine overheating so I visited the local autozone and got a whole bottle of coolant fluid and poured it all in now its still there but a significant part of it is missing i made about 20 miles.

can you see it leaking anywhere? did you put it in the radiator or the coolant resevor? you need to fill it all the way, put the pressure tester cap in place of your radiator cap, pump the system up to say 14 lbs, is it dropping? if so look for the leak, if not let it set for 20 minutes, has it dropped, if so look for the leak, also look for coolant on the floor/pavement. if its going to the outside the motor it will leave a trail, just gota find it. if its goin into the oil you should be seeing it now on the dip stick. oil turns a yuky milky color.

when motor is cool open the radiator cap and see where the level is in there. do not fill the reservor all the way there is a indicator for it hanging on the cap.
