or the fuel pressure regulator?i also got the p1441 code when my opti was going out.they can also throw alot of "false positive"codes. If your mechanic is willing "to bet his life on it being the fuel pump"then he should be willing to "eat the cost",if that isnt the problem and get that in writing!

i also was wondering why a mechanic wouldnt just listen for the fuel pump
he actually did listen to the fuel pump, when he had my cycle the ignition 4-5 times, he was listening for the humming sound, and i called him today, and asked him if he was 100% SURE that this was the problem, and he again said yes.

if this costs me 700$ and there was nothing wrong with the part in the first place, im most likely going to lose my mind. Like i mentioned in my previous post, i DROVE the car to his shop, and now it wont even start...

maybe its like Craby said, and it was "just its time" to go out. to my knowledge the part has never been replaced. so that would make it 14 years old.

i really appreciate allt he feedback ive gotten on my post, and ty to all those who took the time to actually read it.

If your mechanic says he is "100% sure" that this is the problem, please do like the previous posters said and get him to gaurantee, in writing, that this fixes your problem. If he is 100% sure, he should have no problem doing that. And then let him fix it. It's a lot of money but it's good to have a new fuel pump.

i agree with the trap door mod it will make live so much easier i did it the hard way before hearing about it but a dremel tool with a cut off bit should do the trick i had to replace the pump on my old v6 camaro. was fun taking the panhard bars off and dropping the axel, and lowering the straps the take the tank out also don't forget the filler neck and tube was a huge pita.

well if the mechanic says so then get it in writing, thats all I can say. I do all the work on my car myself, i dont trust anyone else and in UK as soon as you say american car the price doubles WTF??? Anyway, has it been checked that your plugs are sparking? and the other stuff the guys mention ^^^ as they are cheaper to fix than the pump. Plus I dunno why the pump would just go instantly, i would have thought the sender would have degraded and the car run crap for a while, then go?? dunno though. Just make sure the fuel pump is defo the issue and that he DOES replace and its not a made up problem

i just read a message from a friend whos car did the same thing, it was fine one day then the next wouldn't start. He cut a hole above the fuel pump/sender (hole mod) and found that it was a problem with the power cable, thats it. You could try this yourself or with a friend, better than $700 new pump
