performance chip?
hey everybody. hope your tuesday is going well! i have a few questions about performance chips;
what is the best peformance chip for the 2002 camaro. v6.
and how would you go about installing one?
my buddy believes i have two ecus in there already, but im not a hundred percent sure thats what it is. once the rain lets up a little bit, ill go outside and take a few pictures so you guys would be able to confirm if it is two ecu's.
thanks in advance!

You can't chip your car. Your car has a PCM/ECU (terms are essentially interchangeable) which can be tuned, but not chipped. Essentially a tune gives new parameters to your car's PCM in various things such as your air and fuel ratios. You can find a dyno shop around you that offers a tuning service, purchase a handheld tuner or do a mail order tune. Tunes are not all that effective on a stock car, however. Wait until you at least have headers and a full exhaust before even thinking about a tune.
And you have a single PCM/ECU, not sure where your friend gets the idea that there would be two.

02 has a pcm. only one. does have a bcm (body control module) as well, i think chips for any 4th gen camaro other than a 93 are a scamm and some for 93 are as well. if your going to tune it use a place like pcmforless or solomon. i perfer solomon (lt1pcmtuning) but im not sure he does a 3.8, he does the 3.4 so give him a shout and see.

if your planning on doing some tuning yourself then the hptuner would be a good thing to have. there are other software available like tunercat, i use a moates setup for my 93 with data master but i think that just does data log. havent gotten to far into it yet. Datalog and Reflash i have used pcmforless and they do ok work, just seem a little automated so some mods get clumped into a tune that doesnt nessarily get you the full benifits out there.
hm yea, i get what youre saying.my buddy was telling me about a shop in my city that does it for 500 total. i think im going to give it a try first, if all else fails, keep trying. if i really cant get it then...shop it will be.

Modds first, tune second. You not going to see much if any change if you get a stock 3800 tuned. If you do standard boltons the PCMforless seems to be well liked. You do not know enough about engines to use HP tune and a Dyno tune is going to get you 3-5% more HP at 5500 RPMs and it will not be noticable in normal(fast) driving. If you start swaping Cams and stuff then the dyno tune is worth it. But only after your all done.
FYI: ECM= Engine control Module PCM= Powertrain Control module. All 94's and ups are PCMs. It is going back aways but I think GM used ECU in their CCC system (pre 87 carb systems).
