ok thanks JD i will wait and buy some new gaskets. As for not being mechanically inclined im taking an auto tech class thru a local college where weve disassembled a couple of engines inspected them and rebuilt them so i know what im doing. And my car has never had engine trouble, it was just electrical and my water pump my engine runs fine. but i will buy some gaskets this week and paint next weekend thanks again for your help. On that note where can i get quality gaskets for a fair price?

These are the ones I recommend (fiber coated rubber)- http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku

i dont know man, if you need help spray painting, i dont think you should be pulling your motor apart. if you want it done right, it really should all get sand blasted and powder coated. spray paint isnt going to look that great, if you dont prep it right its going to flake off. If you plan on building a motor, wait and do it right.

Mass: Thanks for the sites ill look into em

Import: I dont need help spray painting i was asking for advice and the right way to do things, i can spray paint just fine. Ive contemplated buying already professionally painted valve covers and manifold but my dilemma is that building the motor is atleast a year away.. and i mean before i even buy the darn thing. Not only that id beturning it into a 383 and i cant decide if i want to buy a LT1 383 from Golan or buy an old block and refurbish and stroke it out. Im just lookin to spruce it up for a short time before i buy and install the new engineand sell the old.

95:Yeah ijust remember watchin TV and seeing a Chellevebeing built and they put a 572 with red valvecovers and i thought it looked cool

Just clean and sand as you stated. I'm sure you know to put a few coats on there.I have a set I painted, just need to put them on... I painted mine flat black though. I forgot you were talking about the manifold as well. Probably just a little more work than the valve covers.

Just leave it alone, doesnt do anything for ya, and its a pretty decent amount of work just for different colors under the hood.
If you want to discredit someone for wanting to set their car apart from every other one, please do so elsewhere. If you think that is "ricer", then look at your wheels and tell us what they did for ya...
I bought the car with those on, and have already replaced them with oem wheels. And basically what I should have said is, it is a pretty invovled job to remove an intake manifold, especially when your just going to paint it. As in maybe get it P&P atleast, and when I think of a car being set apart from others, usually the modifications are visual to others, not just when you pop the hood.

I agree, it can be a time intensive job. Especially on these cars, since half of everything is under the cowl. Just what's the point of having a clean car if you can't show off the engine bay? Spartan, I'm sure you know this may needed to be done on a weekend, in which you won't need your car... I say this cause if there is something that can come up, it will. Good Murphy's law for ya. Bah! Don't listen to all these nay-sayers Spartan! If you want red, you go for red. If you really wanted to make the intake look nice you could do what they did to the LT4 intake and sand off the top of the ridges so they're a metal color and you have red everywhere else. I think it looks pretty good. Anyway, remember that the intake manifold doesn't have an actual gasket between it and the block, you need to reseal it with RTV. Be sure to let the RTV set up for 24 hours before you start the engine, GM started them all too early from the factory and that's why every single LT1 eventually develops a small oil leak at the back of the manifold. Good luck buddy!
