Default Painted Airlid

Okay I'm wanting to paint my airlid black and red. I have a Camaro font on my computer and I want to put "Luciora" on my airlid in red. What I was planning on doing was sanding down the lid, priming it, and putting down a coat of red. Then using sticker paper print out the word "Luciora" and trace around it with a pen knife, then adhere the individual letters to the lid. Then paint the whole thing black, then remove the lettering and clear the whole thing. I've been told this won't work because when I remove the letters it will take some of the black off with it. Is this true? Or will this method work?

Depends on the type of paint you use, how long you let it dry and how sticky the sticker is.

I was planning on letting each coat dry for 1-2 hours.

I would go way longer than that. Probably more like 24 hours. You don't want the paint to just be dry you want it to be cured.

So should I paint the lid red wait 24 hours then apply the lettering and paint black then wait another 24 hours remove lettering then clear?

That's what I would do. It takes longer but you will get better results.

Sounds like a cool idea, I'm interested in seeing the finished product.

Once I figure out the best way to do the lettering I'll definitely post a pic of the final product.
