Default P0442 code isn't clearing

My ses light came on,small leak evap p0442 ,2002 v6. I put new gas cap on but ses light has not gone off . I drove car at least 8x now for a few hundred miles. I wanted to see if would go off and I fixed problem,or should disconnect battery to clear it? If not gas cap ,what's next in line to ck?

start tracing the hose on back from the engine. check them for any damage or cracks. have you worked on the gas tank recently?

I had that code on my 98 TA. It turned out to be a leaking short hose on the EVAP canister vent valve. It is an electrical valve mounted under the car in front of the rear axle. The metal clamps had rusted away. See the new clamps in the photo.

I checked the obvious and not finding anything, the canister is on top of tank and the hoses which I can't see are the same as fuel lines I think they'd be good. I'm going to pull neg cable and clear it and see what happens . If comes back I'll take up and get serviced

i know boat tanks are pressure tested, they just cap everything and pressure it up. auto tanks are not built near as heavy and i would think the seams would bust out pretty easy. no signs of rust?

I'd put few pounds on the evap line just to spray with soapy water. No rust ,I cleared code and went for ride, had to start/shutoff 3x ,no ses light so far...

Sorry about that. The 98 is the only year that has the particular vent valve that I referenced.
