P0410 code- likely problem?
For the past few months, I've had a Service Engine light, cause by code P0410- Secondary Air System Malfunction. I know there can be a few reasons for this, but in general, is it usually the air pump itself that goes bad? This of course is assuming that all hoses, fuses, connectors, and check valve are good. A Camaro guy that came to buy my used seats told me that it is usually the pump itself. I wanted to run it by you guys and see what your experiences have been.
During the AIR test, the PCM activates the AIR pump during closed loop operation. When the AIR is activated, the PCM monitors theO2 sensorvoltages, and the short-term fuel trim values for both banks of the engine. If the AIR system is operating correctly, theO2 sensorvoltages should be low, and the short-term fuel trim should be high.
If the PCM determines that theO2 sensorvoltages for both banks did not respond with the expected results during the tests, DTC P0410 sets.
What it really means that the AIR system is not working: bad pump, blown fuse, clogged or leaky plumbing, electrical problems.
