Code 43

Code 43
So I was working on the car a bit today. I decided to use tunercat to erase the code 43 esc failure. When I erased it the car ran better and the BLM was actually changing like it should. I was also getting almost no retard at all, only at higher revs and it would be 1-2 degrees. Am I going to run into problems by disabling the code 43? Is it actually disabling the knock sensor?

u should look and see if u can find a program that sets it down so its not so sensative. not having a knock sensor could have some bad things happening at high rpms while using poor gas.

I've never used tunercat, so I gotta ask. Did you only clear the error code, or disable the knock function? If all you did was clear a code, then you're not doing any harm. It could have been a momentary glitch that tripped the code, and will come back only if the problem still persists.

Well it was throwing the code so I went into the tables where you can turn things off like the EGR code. Since I removed the EGR system it threw the code and I assume it just told the computer there was no EGR system anymore. So I did the same with the code 43 and also the computer was stuck in a sort of save mode and the BLMs never changed and it retarded my timing a lot. When I disabled the code 43 the BLMs went back to fluctuating within the normal areas and the excessive retarding went away.

Code 43 means that the computer is not getting a proper signal from the knock sensor. The computer will then retard the spark and go into open loop to protect the engine. You should fix the problem rather than hiding it. Under heavy load conditions or low octane fuel, serious detonation can occur and cause serious damage. The BLM follows the signal from the O2 sensors, but in open loop the O2 sensor is ignored and the BLM defaults to steady mid range.
