Default One tail light is brighter than the other

I was wondering if anyone could help me to diagnose my tail light problem. When I turn on the parking lights, my right rear tail light is dimmer than the left. Any ideas please?

If you switch the lights, does the dim light end up on the other side? If it does you've got a bulb that is bad. If it doesn't, and the "bright light" is dim when you put it in the other socket, it's the socket and I'd be looking for a dirty connection or bad ground somewhere.

Its not the bulb, its brand new. So it is either a bad socket or a bad ground? To find the bad ground do I just trace the ground wire from the socket to where ever it grounds to? Or can anyone tell me where it's grounded to?

make sure the bulb is in correctly. there are two prongs that are at different depths on each side of the bulb base. if inserted incorectly it will cause the brake light to come on when the parking lights are on and the parking light when the brakes are on.

Never assume it's not the bulb, i'd still switch them between sockets to make sure. It's a real pain to trace down wiring assuming it can't be one then without checking the basics first since they're the easiest to check without assuming it's more complex first :P i doubt it's the light either, but still.. even new things go bad.

Well what do you know....ended being that the "brighter bulb" was actually the one that was in the socket the wrong way. I just got this car and am tryin to get it to pass safety inspec but I should've checked if they were in the right way. Thanks for your help guys! Mahalo

Sweet! Gotta love it when it ends up being simple!
