Since these folks are worried about engine reliability and not selling motor oil, I tend to think that an oil change every 3000 miles may be a marketing thing. I also think it proves that a high quality oil filter can last that long also.
hour meters should be standard equipment in every vehicle.

My LS1 has 198,800 miles on it. Ever since 40,000 miles, it has been run on Mobil 1 synthetic 5w30 changed every 3-5k miles. My oil pressure as idle, when hot is 40 psi. pretty amazing if you ask me.

you probably have not received a reply because you hijacked the thread

what do the 5km driven miles consist of? Do you drive 1000 km 5 times per year. Do you take short hops several times per week? Short hops where the engine never get's fully warm are not good either.

yes 1000 KM * 5 = 5000 KM per year.
yes short hops after warming the car for 4 minutes before driving.
can I put oil last for 20 000 Km and not change it for 4 years or 2 years?

honestly, with an engine sitting idle for extended periods you'll want synthetic but you will still have dry cranks. I would fog my outboard engine when I had one and it sat for extended periods of time.

I'd hate to say this but you are claiming around 3k miles per year so that would fall under "severe" conditions

I question your 3k miles per year unless it's a show car but we're all anonymous here

Every engine has a certain amount of ring blow-by that puts combustion gases in the oil. Short trip driving (even after a warm up) can cause the crankcase to accumulate moisture. These can make the oil more acidic, and you don't want your engine's innards, primarily the bearings, "soaking" in that oil for years on end. That's why oil change interval suggestions are X amount of miles, or X amount of months, whichever comes first. If your car gets parked for the winter, change the oil right before you put it in storage.

also, once you pick an oil, STICK with it. if you go synthetic, keep using it not back and forth.

Well, that is a good reminder for me to not assume anything. I would not have guessed you were a Deadliest Catch guy. Since you know so much about our cars, I always assumed you were a professional mechanic of some sort.

I have to say, I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL YOUR ADVICE, it has helped me out a lot.
