Unhappy Oh please help me y'all!

ok..first off I have a 98 chevy camaro Z28..today was quite frankly the "day from hell"..I was only 3 blocks from my home when my baby just died..the reason? I ran out of gas! first time ever!..all that came on before dying completely was "check gauges" I did not try to restart but coasted it over the side of the road..my brother brought me some gas and we literally stayed on the side of the road in this Texas heat for over 3 hours trying to get it to start..it seemed like it wanted to but never did..sounded like when you use cheap gas..the knocking you hear as it was trying to start up..finally had to have it towed and the guy was telling me ( being a female I think he felt sorry for me lol) that when you run out completely like that ...there might be a button or something that you push to reactivate the fuel pump..being when you run out it does this to protect your fuel pump..
So gentlemen..my question is this..after this novel I wrote..
Is there in fact a button that I can push to activate the fuel pump and where is it? I dont even know where or what else to do..please guys..I really need my car..its just me so I need it even more to get around..I simply dont know what else to do..I thank each and everyone who helps me!

I see that I have no replies as of yet..hopefully I will after I add some other issues prior to my last post..before the incident yesterday of my car 'running out of gas and not starting up again' I noticed that a day or two before this happen I felt like a little sputter..nothing major..just small..I had enough gas..maybe 1/2 quarter..so I know it was not a gas issue..now..after reading here I have noticed alot of you have had this problem..I have had a "check engine light" issue as well..that was over a year ago..the first time I did some research and found one "cheap" way to rectify was to replace gas cap..I did that and it worked! But my happiness was short lived and it happen 2 more time..each time I replaced the cap..the third time however I went to a dealer and got the cap..has not came back on..that was in June..and now this happens..again..please anyone out there I really need some answers so I will know what my options are..thank you once again for your help

There is no magic button to press that will start up the fuel pump. From your story it would appear that the engine is not getting fuel. It could be due to a bad pump, clogged fuel filter, bad pump relay, wiring problem, etc.. Someone standing near the fuel tank should be able to hear the pump run for a few seconds when attempting to start the engine, no sound then the pump is not running.
If the check engine lamp is lit, then the computer needs to be scanned to see what it is complaining about; a bad gas cap will not prevent the engine from starting.
Running out of fuel can kill the fuel pump, being that the pump uses the fuel to keep itself cool and lubricated. The sputtering you mentioned was probably due to low fuel pressure, which is an indication that the pump may be going bad.

Running all the fuel out of the tank like that is always a really bad idea.

All the dirt and crap that was lying there at the bottom of your tank just got pumped into your fuel system.

Fuel filter, injectors, pump may be clogged up with crap now.

I guess I would start with the filter and go from there.....
