OBD1 Questions
Ok, strange issue with my 94 Z28. I know it is OBD1 and I know how to short pins A and B together to read out the codes from the SES light flashes. Thing is, when I short the terminals together, the SES light NEVER comes on. I know it works, it comes on when I start the car and it did come on once when I was having that mis-fire issue, but when I try to read the codes it never will turn on. I know it is supposed to flash 12 like 3 times then flash the trouble codes (if any), but even if there are no codes, it should still flash the 12. Any ideas here? Also, my ABS INOP light is on. I have checked the 3rd brake light bulb and it is good (and not LED), so I have been reading that you should be able to short pins A and H to get the codes for ABS, however, my ALDL does not have a terminal H (nothing in it). My car has the standard OBD1 connector (I think they switched to the OBDII style connector in 1995, even though it was still OBDI).

My connector only has terminals in A, B, G and M positions.

i thought all OBDI were the same as far as retrieving the codes. Crap, now I gotta find an obd1 scanner or reader...I have one for OBDII. Is there like a cross over cable or something that will allow an OBDII code reader to work with this version of OBD1? Or something like this? Says it works with "most" GM vehicles. what a pain.

do you have a recommendation?
i have a 3140, it would not work on a 95 for me but works for my 93 and 97 truck and 97 van. mezzy says his 3140 works on his 94 camaro

My actron CP9185 with the ALDL adapter reads the OBD-I codes on my '94 Z pretty well. It's going to cost you over $250 new, but they go for MUCH cheaper on eBay.
It just so happens that my Z has the abs inop light on as well. I'll try to remember to scan it with the CP9185 tomorrow evening and report back whether or not it gives any useful info.
Here's a picture I took when trying to diagnose a SES light, turned out the upper connector on my opti was messed up:
