Default Normal Operating Temperature

I was having issues with overheating (loosing coolant). I noticed a small crack in the radiator. I just finished replacing the radiator.

I now notice my temperature gets to the line above normal and below the orange area. Is this normal?

I am assuming the fans come on at the first line before the orange area? Isn't that too hot to get before the fans come on?

I always thought you want to keep engine temps around 180-205?

I saw other sites say 220-230. 230 is where that line is on the stock guage right?

Mine hits that line above normal and then goes back down; I think I am good.

Now I have to figure out why my car decides to die while sitting at idle in park (usually takes 1-3 minutes in driveway).

You may want to look at the IAC valve and check that the EGR closes when the engine is idling.
