Default No ABS or Cruise control

My ABS light was on when I got the car. It wasn't my first priority, but I searched around on this forum a few months ago and found 2 things: If the tail light is out, the ABS light comes on, and that the Cruise control and ABS are linked in a way that can make them both go at the same time. The 3rd tail light is not out (But would the wrong size bulb do the same thing? I haven't had it open), and when I pulled the car out of storage I discovered that the cruise control doesn't work. I can't seem to find the thread I was looking at a while back, but I know this has been asked before. My next step is to get the codes scanned (This week if I remember), but I was wondering if it could be something simple like a bulb or a fuse (They all looked good too). I should probably mention that it is a '95 z28 too. Thanks!

if your brakes are not acting funny then i would suspect the relay.

If the ABS light is on the cruise control won't work (safety issue). Wrong bulbs will cause problem, common when LEDs are substituted for regular bulbs.

I forgot to mention that I swapped the relay for one from a totaled formula, and it didn't solve the problem (Unless that one is bad too). There isn't a relay in the traction control slot, but there doesn't appear to be wiring for it either. It sounds like the bulbs are worth investigating. The 2 main tail lights aren't stock. They don't look like LED, but they might not be the stock bulbs/wiring harnesses. Thanks!

I did use the ABS relay. It has the same writing on the top, and was pulled from the same slot on the firebird's box. I noticed that the light doesn't come on until I start moving forward. Now that I know that the cruise control automatically disables when the ABS isn't working I'm thinking it could be anything. I'll have to remember to get the codes scanned this week.

sure sounds like one of the speed sensors may be failing or have a bad wire. scann may tell.

Thats what I'm thinking now. A code scan will tell which sensor right? It would save me a lot of time checking wires.

My abs light is on and my cruise control doesn't work on my 2001 Firebird, but that's because the rear end gears were changed to 4:10, and some sensor wasn't changed to make it realize the right gears. But if you still have the stock rear end gears, I have no idea.

The ABS system looks at wheel speed or differential carrier speed, depending if 3 or 4 channel systems. Gear ratio makes no difference, so if your ABS does not work is is not due to the gear change. However, there is always the possibility that either the differential carrier was replaced with one without the reluctor ring (3 chan system), or that the axle housing was replaced with one with no wheel speed sensors (4 chan system). That being said, if everything is system correct, then there probably is a common ABS problem that can be identified with a ABS scanner.
