Default Newbie: Thinking about buying a 2000 SS, any pointers?

Hey guys I am new here. I have always wanted a camaro since I started driving. For cost reasons I drove around this little mitsubishi that lasted me forever. Now it's starting to act up and I am considering to take the plunge and buy a Camaro. The one I am looking at is a 2000 SS. It has 52,000 miles on it and looks mint. I have yet to go to the dealer yet, but hope to soon enough. Now the price they are asking is 16,000. Is this a little on the high side? I am only asking since I've seen Camaro prices jump all over the place. Also anything I should be aware of as with common problems with the car? Or how much repairs run on these cars? Average insurance you guys are paying?

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to be sure I know what I am getting into if I get this car. Thanks in advance!

Well how old are you? If your new to the world of American performance a 2000SS wouldnt really be my first choice.. not kuz their not great cars.. but their powerful and if youryounger insurance is gonna be a pain. But if you feel like that car has your name on it by all means get it. Their nice cars and not that easy to find!

Thanks for the reply. I will be 23 this March. I know this is a lot of car and I wouldn't have bought such a car when I was younger. Any more info from Camaro owners would be much appreciated! [8D]

yeah the price sounds about right for a ss camaro 2000. you might go a little cheaper if you buy it from an owner than a dealer. but mileage is low so yeah that is the price. but if i was you i shop around first to compare prices but like spartan 66 said they are not easy to come by especially those in really good conditon with low miles on them.

Yea, I am not going to rush into it. Now I see a couple of Z28's (2000-2002) running cheaper than the SS's. Is the only real difference between the two 15 or so HP? Because I can get find an 02' with only 34k miles for 15,000 from a private seller. I like the color of this 2000 SS but this one is very close by. I am just pricing things up but here are the links if anyone's interested.

Any chevy can be an SS, only a camaro can be a z28.
