Thanks again for the replies. I am with you about that SS. I love the color and overall look. I may be able to knock a decent amount off that Z28. Think it's a big difference? 20k less miles and an 00' compared to an 02'?

dont be nitpicky about the mileage.. GM engines are tough as hell. im rolling around on 125,000 and i havent had any engine problems.. only a few things like cooling and ignition and opti.

I'd go for the one with less miles personally, that of course depends on the condition of the two cars, but less miles is usually better. Just my $0.02, 20K miles isn't that much more, but it will make some difference in how long you personally can drive the car w/out repairs. On the other hand, you can also look at the one that has 20K more miles, does it have newer tires, brakes because it's been driven more. There's a lot to consider...

I am thinking the main difference is one's an SS one's a Z28. The SS is a dealer, Z28's a private seller.

In that case go for whichever one you think you can get a better price for. The SS is all looks, so if you like the way it looks better and you're willing to pay more for it, get that one.

No More Horses!

If we were talking a 96 or 97 SS then yes, a little power increase, 98+ SS has the same HP as a Z28...

I think in 2001-2002 Z28's have 310 while SS's have 325. Nothing crazy, but still something. Oh, I also read the newer Z28's have a speed governor set at 108mph while the SS's are at 160mph. That just sounds off, can anyone verify that?

Yes, you are correct in saying they were rated by the factory as higher, but this is all marketing hype. In all actuality the LS1 in the F-body made as much HP as the 350 HP Corvettes. All LS1's were 350 HP right out of the factory, dyno tests and track times have proven this time and time again. As far as the speed governor goes, the only way the car is governed is if it was ordered from the factory with S rated tires instead of Z rated. I believe the S rated tires were only an option between '93-'97, I've never heard of a speed governed '98+ Z28/SS. If you got the Z rated tires there is no governor on the car, your speed is limited by gearing and drag.
