Default New V6 member on the boards

Hey everyone,

So Ive started driving this Camaro a lot more, and now that Ive got some money to spend, Id like to mod it a bit. I installed some new ceramic pads on Sunday, and dropped in a K&N filter. I love this car, and Id like to do some low cost mods to get a little more sound and grunt out of it. I love the handling and its pretty much mint, (46K and maintained at our independent german shop) so maint. isn't an issue.

So far Im getting a Flowmaster 40 (2.5" in and out) to keep it simple. I dont really want the dual exhaust since I dont have the LT/S1... but Id love a deeper note, and I think the flowmaster is what I need. The 3.4 seems a little raspy at higher RPMs but down low I love the rumble and that torque. Would yall recommend that muffler?

And for intake, Id like to go to cold air. Im debating between airbox removal with K&N cone, K&N CAI, or one of those EBay Chrome intakes (any advice on those? work well? I might paint mine flat black or something, but over all a good intake?).

And any other upgrades yall would recommend that arent too expensive. Is the 160 degree t-stat really worth it? I read the FAQ and searched a bit, so I hope this first post isnt another one of those "not this again..." things.

Again, I love this car, hope to keep it and mod it for a while.

Thanks in advance, I hope to post here more

Also, do I need a minimum # of posts to show some pics?

sweet car man.
glad you joined
well as you can see by the price, the k@n cold air intake is better
but it it really worth that much more?
Alot of members on this forum have the ebay cold air intake and they are happy with it.
and mean the ebay cold air intake is roughly 150$ less at least then the k@n and you may only get 2-4 more horses over the ebay cold air intake
but if you have the money
go with the k@n
but if you arn't that concerned about few extra horses get the Ebay CAI
that is what i am getting
and they make the ebay cold air intake with a k@N FILTER so even more goodies!

Awesome man, that's what I was hoping to hear.

Since this K&N filter is brand new, Advance said they'd take it back and get me a K&N cone if I got the CAI. Anyone paint the pipes? The chrome feels way to ricey for me, I'd rather it be flat black.

Also, does my car have an LSD/posi or open diff? I've heard the manuals have LSDs, but all I get is the one wheel peel.

Check for a code on the drivers door. G80 would mean you would have a limited slip, though it doesn't sound like you do.

Thanks man, I'll check that.

Last question - is it worth it to do a full cat-back, or will I be happy with just a 40 series? Would there be a significant power increase with the cat-back setup vs. just the muffler?

I guess that just depends on how far you plan on taking the car. I personally like the sound of the 3.4 better than the 3.8, and would probably get a full catback. Oh, and to answer your question from the first post... You don't need a minimum amount of posts to show pictures.

I would go with the full cat back.It will also leave the door open latter down the road if you decide to do a Y-pipe and headers.

Cool thanks for the advice, just what I wanted.

Went to a local muffler shop today and turns out the cat is actually starting to fail. I'll replace it with a high flow, maybe new 2.5" piping from there and then the 40 series.

I'll take some before and after videos when I get a chance.
