Default New head unit in 95 z28

Hey everybody I am looking to purchase a head unit from crutchfield and an HUmount and install it in my car. My car has the bose sound system. The radio in the car doesnt work very well at all, the radio signal comes in half the time and when it does its not very good quality. Would this be a problem with the head unit itself that will be fixed when i get an aftermarket unit? I am also wondering if i need to bypass the amp or what. On crutchfield it says i will need to run new wire from the head unit to all the speakers. Is this something that can be easily done or is it more of a tougher job? One other question, when i hit the brakes while the head unit is on you can hear a popping noise coming through the speakers. Im wondering if that could be the amp or the head unit itself shorting out and causing this problem? Thanks for the help in advance

Chris

could be in the wiring or the stereo. i did all the wires in mine. if it still does it after the install it may be the bcm.

Sounds more like a problem with your antenna or the associated wiring. I swapped out the stock antenna (looked like an RC car) for a smaller 8" one and the reception instantly went down.

Also, replacing the Bose system in your car is more trouble than it's worth. You can't just swap out head units because the preamp volume output is completely different. Wiring an aftermarket stereo to each speaker would stress the new head unit's poweramp because the impedance of the Bose speakers is odd (4 ohms). The stock Bose system already sounds good because it has 300 watts of headroom. The only way to properly swap head units without buying new speakers and completely rewiring everything would be to buy a converter box like the Scosche OEA-4 so you can reuse the stock amps.
