Default New camaro owner! Pic/question inside!

Hello all!. I recently purchased a 1997 z28 camaro 30th anniversary edition as of monday and well, to be quite honest, couldnt be happier with the car.

Car only has 100xxxkms on er and runs perfectly. Stupid coolant light likes to like up whenever it wants to, but i havent gotten around to cleaning it up. Rad is filled to the top when cold. Anyways onto the question!

The car will rarely start the first attempt. Ill let it crank over twice and let off it might sputter, then nothing. But another attempt with two cranks, fires right up and runs perfect. This almost ALWAYS happens. When it does start on the 2nd crank, it has the distinct smell of gas. And if the engine is revved, you can hear it pop and crack in the exhaust. Happens on cold or hot engine. Almost seems to me that its flooding partially.

ANy opinions on this are welcome, thanks in advance

Im probably gonna remove the front/rear lips on the car for the time being since they are all chipped to **** anyways. Ill look around for sideskirts during the repainting

Have you changed plugs?

it could b that ur fuel filter is clogged just enough to not get the fuel it needs to start, then it has enough to start and extra fuel left over is causing the backfire, If i were u i would due a complete tune up and c if that help plus then u know when it was last done as well. the fuel fillter is easy to change and cheap plus it never hurts.

I agree, do a full tune up, make sure all the plugs are good etc.

If that doesn't fix the issue you could be having issues with the Optispark distributor, hard starting and sputtering at high RPM are both symptoms of an opti that's on it's way out.
