Default Neutral Trunk Release?

So I was driving around today enjoying the most beautiful day in the middle of March. Tops off, shades on; you know the drill. Anyways I just love hearing my car roar so I put her in neutral and heard the strangest noise, my trunk released. Didn't think much of it. Revved it up and smiled.

Later on, when I went to reverse, it did the same thing. So I tried it a couple times going from drive to neutral, from reverse to neutral and it kept happening. When I got home, I parked in the drive way and tried it, still happening.

I shut the car off, turned the power on: nothing. Turned the ignition on, tried it again, didn't happen.

Earlier in the morning when I manually unlocked the passenger door then used the switch unlock the driver's side, the trunk released too. This issue comes hot on the heels of a current braking issue (dry pavement, slowling gently when the brakes disengage and the low trac light comes on, then they eventually reengage, sometimes happening more than once at a stop or more than once in a drive, but not very often, generally speaking... will make research that issue before I make a post)

Just wondering if it's a short or what? Any ideas?

Thanks

Jared

I wonder if maybe the wiring from the release button came unclipped from the console, is hanging down, and getting snagged/pulled by the shifter?

I have not yet did a scan, I will be Sunday when I head over to my neighbours garage to change the fluids, fog lights and put new pads on the front brakes.

I think I may have figured it out. I just need a test pilot first.

Can someone try releasing their trunk with the car running in R, N, OD and D for me? I think it may be a stuck button.

I just opened my door and it released.

opening your door activates the doorlocks and trunklock. if u try to use them after the door is opened and closed, thats after the key is turned off, they will not work. as soon as u open the door they are turned back on. so u are right it could be a stuck button or could be some bear wires touching somewhere. or could be some pins in a plugin are bent over before being pluged together and they are touching sometimes. disconnect the trunk release and test it to see if its getting power all the time.

Is your car a 5 speed or auto.. if its auto, then its your trunk release button near your left leg.. Its actually probably when your pushing your clutch, thats there is a lose wire near your trunk release button..

Check it out under there... if its auto, you got me.

Thanks for the suggestions folks. Turns out the button was indeed stuck "pressed in" which is why I was having the problems. I had to use some electrical tape to pull it out and used a cotton swab with Vaseline to lube it up a bit and hopefully that will help. Unfortunately the glove box is loose. I can never get that thing to go back on snuggly.

I am having the same exact issue with my Camaro. Mine is an automatic, and this didn't start until after I had an alarm installed and then tried to figure out my seat belt light issue. It is driving me nuts. I am constantly having to check the trunk whenever I go anywhere or when I get out of the car.

The only trunk release in my Camaro that I know of is in the glove box and on the remotes that I have. Am I missing something?

After looking closely at the trunk release, I noticed it was pushed in just enough to make the hatch release...problem solved

KcLive, may I suggest a cotton swab with vaseline on it just to help a little? I noticed my plastic button seemed to be snagging or getting caught on the actual hole and while it's not perfect now it's no longer getting stuck.
