Just a basic pressure test is the first thing to do. Coolant will boil around 220 degs are sea level. If I remember right for the boiling point rises about 6 degs for every pound of pressure. So a coolant system at 10 PSI will boil around 280. Your engine will see higher temp then your gage reads around the cylinder heads. That means any system that cannot hold pressure will boil.
